You are invited to a special evening of history, culture, and community on behalf of the Jefferson Parish Bicentennial, the Jefferson Performing Arts Society, and the City of Westwego.
On October 17 - 19th, the Westwego Theater (177 Sala Avenue) will host a performance of As Long as the Earth Lasts, written by Professor John Doucet of Nicholls State.
The evenings will begin at 7:00 PM with a brief talk by Professor Doucet, followed by the play.
"As Long as the Earth Lasts", or "Tant que Durera la Terre", tells the theatrical story of Cheniere Caminada, the coastal Louisiana fishing village destroyed by the Great Hurricane of 1893. Based on historical narratives and legends, the play reflects the imagined survival story of the playwright's great-great-grandfather, John Frederique Rebstock.
This production, presented in partnership with The Nicholls Players, tells the story of resilience, survival, and the origins of Westwego.
