The City of Westwego is currently looking for individuals to work in the Water and Street Maintenance Department.
Job Requirements
1. Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions). Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
2. High School Diploma or GED from an agency approved by the Louisiana Department of Education.
3. Must demonstrate ability to learn and independently operate equipment such as backhoe, bobcat, lawn equipment, and various other pieces of equipment.
4. Must be able to maintain daily logs and records.
5. Must perform all work in accordance with local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations and in compliance with all departmental safety policies and procedures. This includes using appropriate safety devices and equipment.
6. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
7. Physical stamina and agility enough to stand, walk, climb stairs, bend and engage in similar physical activities for the duration of the shift, as necessary.
8. Basic knowledge and ability to read equipment instruction and maintenance manuals, drawings, and schematics.
9. Ability to make rapid and sound decisions daily.
10. A Class 3 or 4 license in distribution for water system is preferred but not required.

Louisiana Certified Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator
The City of Westwego operates a 2.5 MGD activated sludge wastewater treatment plant and is seeking a Certified Operator who will operate and maintain the wastewater treatment plant. Responsibilities include overseeing the daily activities of the wastewater treatment plant, solving complex operations problems, and performing maintenance/operations activities at the wastewater treatment plant. Class 3 Operator Certification in both Wastewater Treatment and Wastewater Collection Systems is preferred.
Job Requirements
1. Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions). Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
2. Minimum of 3 years of experience in wastewater treatment plant.
3. Must have Louisiana Class 3 Operator Certification in Wastewater Treatment and/or Wastewater Collection System.
4. High School Diploma or GED from an agency approved by the Louisiana Department of Education.
5. Must demonstrate ability to learn and independently operate equipment such as pumps, generators, valves, chemical feed, disinfection equipment, sludge drying bed, and measuring/control devices, testing equipment and material handling equipment.
6. Must be able to use computer programs for control.
7. Must be able to maintain daily operational and maintenance logs and records for wastewater treatment plant.
8. Must perform all work in accordance with local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations and in compliance with all departmental safety policies and procedures. This includes using appropriate safety devices and equipment.
9. Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
10. Physical stamina and agility sufficient to stand, walk, climb stairs, bend and engage in similar physical activities for the duration of the shift, as necessary.
11. Basic knowledge and ability to read equipment instruction and maintenance manuals, drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
12. Ability to make rapid and sound decisions in the event of extraordinary situations such as equipment malfunctions or power outages to protect public health and equipment.
