Red Bean Row

Oral tradition holds that Red Bean Row consisted of a group of houses; all painted a deep shade of red comparable to the color of red beans.  They initially housed workers from Seven Oaks Plantation nearby up the river.  In his 1929 book “Red Bean Row,” author and Gretna native R. Emmet Kennedy, referred to the area countless times but was never specific as to its location or residents.  It is open to personal interpretation.  Research is on-going.
