Arnondin Self -Serving Store

The self-serving store, possibly the first of its kind in the area, was built at 452 Sala Avenue by Victor and Seconde Jambon Arnondin in the early 1930s. They were survivors of the 1893 hurricane in Caminada.
The store was built in front of their family home, which backed up to the Company Canal. His sign read ''Self-Serving Store;' which was a new concept for the 1930s and featured general merchandise.
Victor and Seconde's son Sidney became famous as a clarinet player and was co-composer of the 1930s hit song ''Lazy River:' Sidney died February 6, 1948, here at the family home in Westwego.
