currently serving as Chief of police for the City of Westwego. Born in 1965 the son of Westwego Police Chief David J. Munch and his wife Delta. Prior to his career in law enforcement, Chief Munch proudly served his country as a United States Marine.
Chief Munch attended the Gretna Police Academy where he graduated at the top of his class and received an award for proficiency with firearms. He began his career with the Gretna Police Department in 1987 where he served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Crime Scene Officer and Police Academy Instructor. His distinguished service as a Gretna Police Officer earned him a medal of merit, two medals of commendation, and a life saving medal.
Chief Munch’s law enforcement education includes training from the United States Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation, University of New Orleans, University of North Florida’s Institute of Police Technology, Delgado Community College, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and many other state and local police agencies.
Chief Munch was appointed in 2007 by Governor Bobby Jindal to serve on the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. He also serves on the Executive Board of the Louisiana Association of Chiefs of Police, the Louisiana Municipal Police Retirement System, the Jefferson Parish homeland Security Committee, and the Jefferson Parish Crime Prevention and Reduction Task Force.
Due to his success as a new Police Chief, he was also instrumental in assisting in the development of Louisiana’s training course of all newly elected and appointed Police Chiefs.
