May 10, 2023

Waste Generated by a Business/Commercial Establishment Will Not Be Accepted

JEFFERSON, LA  The Department of Environmental Affairs; a Keep American Beautiful affiliate and in partnership with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office LASER Division, E3 OMI and the John. A Alario, Sr. Event Center, will be hosting a Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) event on Saturday, June 3, 2023, to collect from Jefferson Parish residents. The HHM collection event will take place in the parking lot of the Alario Center (2000 Segnette Blvd., Westwego, LA 70094) between the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Household Hazardous Materials (HHM) are leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable or reactive ingredients. Products such as paints, common household cleaners, oils, batteries, and pesticides that contain potentially hazardous ingredients require special care when you dispose of them.

The improper disposal of HHM can include pouring waste down the drain, on the ground, into storm drains or in some cases, putting it out with the trash. The dangers of such disposal methods might not be immediately obvious, but improper disposal pollutes the environment and may pose a threat to human health.
